I have just read the wikipedi of John Merrick AKA The Elephant Man (actual name was Joseph Carey Merrik)who lived from August 5,1862 and died April 11,1890. Mr. Merrick was/is an inspiration to many the World over in the UK as well as the US, so much so that there is a website in order to conmemorate him as well as a facebook page (friends of joseph merrick) The Movie closely depics Mr. Merricks true story with some differences but there is a scene of the movie were in Mr. Merrick is at a train station being followed by a croud which is very, close to the real incident. The error in Mr. Merricks name arose and propagated because most of the early works including Ashley Montagu's The Elephant Man: A Study in Human Dignity and Frederick Drimmer's Very Special People, used as research the memoirs of Sir Frederick Treves, written many years after his first-hand experience with Merrick.
I hope u enjoyed this piece of information from the 19th century!!!!!
